Another amusing boat has arrived: an interesting new model may appeal to fans of diesel and electric motors both. Yes, we are talking about a hybrid boat - the Southern Wind Hybrid 108

Hybrid in its purest form

The Southern Wind Hybrid 108 is a brand new diesel-electric yacht. Cape Town shipyard Southern Wind has revealed more details about their new 108 ft Southern Wind Hybrid 108. The hull is already being molded!



This is the first project of the brand, which is designed from the very beginning with a diesel-electric power plant. The plant will be supplied by BAE Systems. The BAE system should save up to 30% fuel. Moreover, it is equipped with the function of hydrogeneration of the engine charge reserve.

“By the way, the weight of the boat depends on the battery capacity that the owner chooses. But in comparison, it is not much heavier than a conventional diesel plant,” says Southern Wind technical manager Yann Dabbady.

Hull, sails, saloon

The body is made on the basis of carbon construction. We were also surprised by the impressive 6.2m lifting keel. Among other things, there is a large area of sailing weapons. All this will help the boat to be as stable as possible on the water and provide excellent driving performance.



As for the rigging, the creators tried to keep the number of winches and ends to a minimum. The rest - no frills. Of the features, there are as many as two backstays and the absence of a topenant. 

On the transom there is a fairly large folding bathing platform. On the cockpit, which is located closer to the stern, there are two steering wheels. There is also a decent sized lounge area.



Regarding the number of cabins, the manufacturing company does not give exact statements. According to the top manager of the company, this issue will be discussed with a potential customer on an individual basis.

At the same time, the official documentation states 6 double cabins, including the master cabin. So, there are 8 places for guests and 5 for crew members.



The company says deck plans, interior configuration, styling and equipment will be entirely up to the owner.
