We are very pleased to reveal our latest blue water cruising yacht design, ‘Lynx’, which commences build in Holland in February 2022. She is a 15m aluminium lifting keel sailboat created for worldwide multi-climate cruising as well as to take on the North West Passage and high latitude expedition sailing in ice. Primarily a private yacht yet designed to comply with the MGN 280 code to allow for commercial/charter voyages in all oceans and polar regions. This yacht is the culmination of over a year of combined design effort with her Swiss owner and is already referred to as ‘little Qilak’. Lynx has however many unique details of her own that are specific to her skipper’s exacting requirements which were based on his many years of sailing and reviewing the explorer and blue water cruising yachts currently on the market.
The main lower cabin is open plan, comprising the main saloon with seating for eight to port and a twin berth, pullman style to starboard. This area includes a dedicated office space which creates seperation from the saloon for a work/study zone. Aft and adjacent of the main saloon to port is a fully equipped expansive galley. The central lifting keel trunk and starboard passageway seperates off the main cabin from the sauna and central outboard bathroom compartments to starboard. Large window openings in the hull sides bathe the main areas in natural light and for those hunkered down, cozy times allowance has been made for with a ‘Reflex’ heater to locate centrally at the forward end of the galley.
Lynx’s accommodation consists of a distinctive raised pilothouse accessed from the main cockpit via a watertight door. The pilothouse incorporates all round visibility through triple glazed windows, a full-length bench sofa/pilot berth, dedicated navigation/watch station and wet locker. Internal access forward leads to the main lower accommodation level which consists of twin aft double berth cabins. The port companionway accesses the galley whilst the starboard companionway leads past the fully equipped heads compartment with integral shower, and adjacent two-person sauna compartment (doubles as extended stowage area for long passages) to the forward twin berths and main access for the saloon. The forepeak features both workshop and expansive and dedicated storage space.
The mast is a custom two spreader 7/8th rig with furling/reefing jib and a furling staysail. Analysis over a number of courses indicates an average passage speed greater than 8 kts and a range under motor in excess of 3.000 miles with generous reserve. Lynx is designed for short-handed, fast passages and then the ability to remain in remote areas without support for prolonged periods, we think it makes her the perfect small expedition/explorer yacht for families and small charter groups.
